There cannot be smooth sailing and resolution when there is an apparent lack of respect among team members. All people are different, each from everyone else. They have all had experiences in their lives that have given them unique opinions and perspectives on different situations. When someone is a member of a business team, there are many elements they must remember to make sure they are not suppressing or stereotyping based on outward appearances.
All teams must have an efficient and effective leader. Without a leader, the progress will move slowly and will be rough going. There must be direction and guidance coming from at least one person so that everyone on the team is always on the same page. Leaders will organize and direct. They will delegate responsibilities, monitor progress, and deal with obstacles as they arise. They may be the leader and be responsible for a great deal of the outcome, but they rely on the support of their team to get everything done the way it should be done and on time. They rely on the cooperation of every member.
There are many different opinions that will be placed on the table when analyzing a problem within a group of people. Differing opinions means different perspectives and this is something that can benefit a team. Possible problems and solutions are both spotted by individuals because of their unique way of looking at things. Previous experience with certain situations gives some members an upper hand on how to handle the issue, experience that others on the team can learn from.
When people work together by attempting to respect, having an open mind, and listening, things run smoothly. Chaos comes with miscommunication, mishaps, and members derailing the operation with incompetence or irresponsibility. Leaders will be monitoring everything in order to keep this from happening. When everyone is going in the same direction, the team will be successful, no matter what problems might arise.
When you look at each team situation as an opportunity to learn, you will find it much easier to work with strangers or coworkers. Ask questions and choose to learn from those who have more experience. Even a leader can learn from team members because so many people have such diverse backgrounds. Mold yourself into an expert by watching others do what they do and learn from them. Keep an open mind at all times, and utilize each member of the team for their unique perspectives.
